GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Lead Teachers are responsible for teaching and modeling Judaica, Jewish values, and Jewish practices according to the curriculum, values, and ideals of the Temple. Lead Teachers are also responsible for implementing the prescribed secular curriculum and for enhancing the program. Lead Teachers report to the Early Childhood Center Director.
COVERAGE: All employees are expected to be responsible at all times, for the welfare and well-being of students on the Temple Kol Ami grounds. Each employee should act in a professional manner at all times. Children are never to be left unattended. Both teachers must supervise playground time and focus on the children. Faculty is required to remain in the building during work hours unless otherwise approved by the Director.
EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK POLICIES: Employee agrees to abide by all of the Employee and Parent Handbook policies at Temple Kol Ami Early Childhood Center.
COVID-19 Protocols: You are responsible for following all TKA COVID-19 protocols in place for as long as necessary during the school year and any time you are at Temple Kol Ami
EDUCATIONAL PLANS: A) The teacher agrees to plan and teach an educational program for the children that he or she is assigned, to be responsible for the reasonable use of equipment and materials, and to supervise and guide teacher assistants. B) Weekly lesson plans must be emailed to the Assistant Director every Wednesday by 1:00 P.M. or at the beginning of each week. C) Weekly lesson plans must be posted in the classroom every Friday. D) Teacher will keep current records and evaluations of children in his/her class.
COMMUNICATION: The Lead Teacher is expected to be available for parent conferences as well as communication with parents daily and on other occasions, as warranted. Communication with parents should never take place in front of other parents or children. If a student is absent for two consecutive days and a parent has not called in, the teacher should contact the parent by telephone. The teacher must inform the Director of any and all relevant communications and all pertinent information regarding specific problems or occurrences. Teachers will prepare a weekly newsletter to be distributed on Fridays. A copy must be emailed to the Assistant Director by 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday afternoons.
RESPONSIBILITIES: A) Each employee is expected to set up the classroom prior to arrival of students and to clean up prior to departure. Classrooms are to be kept neat and attractive at all times. Floors should be swept after snack, lunch and major projects. B) Personal phone calls should not be made during classroom work hours except in the case of an emergency.
TEACHING MATERIALS: It is the Teacher’s responsibility to utilize all available materials and resources to enrich his/her classroom program, and to take care of these materials. In addition, each Lead Teacher will receive petty cash to purchase additional classroom supplies twice per year. It is your responsibility to submit receipts for items purchased to the director. Items purchased should be pre-approved by the director.
ATTENDANCE: One absence without proper notification will require your signature on a written warning and two absences without proper notification will result in termination. Repeated tardiness without proper notification will result in termination. Attendance at Teacher Orientation Week, including Meet the Teachers Conferences with new families, Faculty Meetings (monthly), Parent Open House, BJE Conference and any major fundraisers are considered part of your position. Attendance is also required for one age level Tot Shabbat during the school year.
STAFF MEETING: A) Staff meetings, to discuss school business and concerns will be conducted monthly and attendance is required; failure to attend will result in monetary deduction. The agenda will include planning of the next six to eight weeks of school wide programming. B) Teachers’ workshops are held at the beginning of the year and mid-year. C) Occasionally a brief meeting will be called to conduct business pertaining to a specific program or concern. D) Attendance at Teacher Orientation Week in August is required and will be compensated.
SELF-EVALUATION: Self-evaluation is required and is facilitated by a form. The purpose of this or other methods of evaluation is to facilitate the staff member setting his/her own goals for growth. In addition, there will be regular evaluations by the Director of each employee.
REGULATIONS: Preschools are regulated by Arizona Department of Health Services and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. All employees must meet the ADHS employee requirements. Current requirements are as follows: finger printing, FBI check, TB test, and Child Care Provider’s CPR/First Aid Certificate. All employees will need to comply with any new employee regulations that are enacted into law. All employees are required to complete a minimum of 18 hours of continuing education yearly. All staff must be punctual and sign in/out on a daily basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: A Lead Teacher must be capable of:
· lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds
· able to stretch, bend, walk, stand and sit for extended periods
· work with children on the floor and get up quickly
